Many years ago, I didn’t even know what a bodystocking was.  Well, now there are so many unique styles for you to choose from.  A body-stocking is a one-piece lingerie item that covers most of the body, mainly the legs and torso.  Some body stockings have spaghetti straps, some halter around the neck, and/or cover the arms.  They are frequently made of soft stretch lace or stretch fishnet material.  Body-stockings come in a variety of colors but my favorite has always been black.

Step #1:  Begin by wearing your best fitting bra (even if it does not fit correctly) or a tight fitting camisole or tank top.  With a soft measuring tape, measure your ribcage right under the breast.  (Image #1)  Wrap the tape around your back and precisely upon the crease under the breast tissue.  Keep the measuring tape horizontal with the ground and be sure it is not higher in the front or back. It’s sometimes easier to have another peson do this than to do it yourself, so enlist a helper if you have one.  (Image #2)  Pull the tape snug and relax your shoulders.  If you are between two numbers, simply round down to the smaller number.  This is not yet your band size, you must add 3 inches to any odd number, and add 2 inches to any even number.  For example, if you measured 33 + 3 and your band size = 36, if you measured 36 + 2 and your band size = 38. Also, if you do not have a soft measuring tape you may use a piece of string and measure it with a ruler.

Step #2:  (Image #3)  While keeping the measuring tape horizontal with the ground, loosely measure across the absolute fullest part of the bust, without restricting the breast tissue in any way.  It is important not to measure too high or too low, ensure the tape is across the fullest (largest) portion of the breast.  (Image #4)  This will determine your cup size.  If you are between 2 numbers, round up to the larger number.  The difference between your band size (after adding) and cup measurement equals your cup size.  Every 1 inch is 1 cup size, (see chart below).  For example, if your band size is 36 and your cup measurement is 39 inches, the difference between 36 and 39 is 3 which means you are a 36C.  If your band size is 40 and your cup measurement is 48 inches, the difference between 40 and 48 is 8 which means you are a 40FF. 

We convert all of our bra sizes to (UK) European sizes, to correspond with our inventory, as do many specialty bra retailers.  So remember if you already have your perfect fit, and are above a DD cup, it may be necessary for you to convert your size before ordering.  If you are not sure if your perfect fit is European or American sizing we are definitely able to help you.  The size chart does list (US) American sizes in parenthesis.

Keep in mind that almost every woman has one breast that is larger than the other. This is completely normal and simply fit your bra according to your larger breast.  (Image #5)  One very important thing to remember about bras; you may go down a band size and up a cup size, or vice versa for a better fit.  For example, if you wear a 36C, you may also wear a 34D or a 38B; and if you wear a 40FF, you may also wear a 38G or a 42F. This is generally referred to as “sister sizing”.

Once you have determined your bra size, you should check the Key Fit Points to ensure you are wearing the right size and fit.  At least 90% of the support of a bra should come from the band size, while the other 10% comes from the shoulder straps.  This will eliminate common headaches, neck aches, and muscle strain on the back and shoulders, and will also improve posture.  You should be able to comfortably fit 2 fingers under the band of the bra while on the middle back clasp.  (Image #6)  The bra band should be completely horizontal with the floor and not rise up toward the ceiling. (Image #7)  To ensure a proper fit, raise both arms straight up, the band should stay against the body and hug the ribcage without exposing any breast tissue underneath.  (Image#8)  If any of these scenarios occur, you should go down 1 band size and up 1 cup size.  (Image #9)

If the band is digging into the body or painful in any way, try going up 1 band size and down 1 cup size.  (Image #10)  Each time you adjust the band size smaller or larger, the cup size will automatically change accordingly, which means that a D cup is 2 sizes smaller in a 34 band than a D cup in a 38 band because a 34 is 2 sizes smaller than a 38.  A cup size G is 4 cup sizes larger in a size 40 band, than a cup size G in a 32 size band because a 32 is four sizes smaller than a 40. 

To determine the perfect cup fit look to make sure the underwire is completely surrounding all of the breast tissue.   (Image #11)  Check near the armpit where the underwire is positioned to ensure it is behind the breast tissue and does not poke by being positioned to far forward on the body.  Also, the underwire should rest flat on the ribcage directly under the breast and stay positioned firmly in the crease for support.  (Image #8 again) Finally notice if the underwire is resting completely flat against the chest between the breasts in the cleavage area and separating, without causing spilling out of the top of the cup.  (Image # 12) If there is any spilling or the wire is not flush try one cup size larger (or two) to allow room for the breast to fit into the cup. 

Should the cup size be too large, the underwire will poke the armpit and be very uncomfortable and or there may be a gap between the breast and the bra cup. (Image # 13)  There may be wrinkling in the fabric along the top of the cup, or the breast will not feel lifted and shaped, in this case try one cup size smaller.  (Image #14)  The shoulder straps are adjustable for individual comfort and mild support, but remember that if the band size fits correctly and the bust is supported mostly from underneath, the shoulder straps should not dig in and cause deep indentations on the top of the shoulder.

Picture this analogy to better understand bra fitting; your body is the center of a teeter totter with someone always sitting on one side (breast tissue).  If there is no strength in the center ( a snug and supportive band size) no matter how many times the heavy side is pushed up and lighter side is pulled down, it quickly or eventually gives in to gravity and becomes uneven.  However, if the middle is sturdy the heavy side will remain lifted and supported, while the lighter side will not rise up toward the sky.

All resolutions aside, buying correctly fitting lingerie and knowing how to wear it should be something you always know how to do. Today, weʼre going to focus on getting the most out of your lingerie and making sure that all those straps and hooks involved in garter belts are being worn correctly.

Garter straps sure are sexy, but ever try attaching them to your stockings for the completed look, but just end up feeling confused? No need to feel intimidated by all those straps anymore, below are the step by step instructions to make sure you donʼt get too tangled, and appear effortlessly sexy.

First, put on the garter belt, or the top with the attached straps. You will want to make sure that the straps in the front fall in the middle of each of your thighs. Making sure the straps are hanging straight is an important first step to ensure a put together look. If you are wearing a separate garter belt, it should fall right around your hips, and often times you will be able to adjust the fastenings to make sure it is not too tight, but isnʼt falling off you either.

Then, you can adjust the straps so that they stop at a little less than half way down your thigh, no shorter than 1/4 of the way down, but no longer than a 1/3. Having the stockings or thigh highs held up at the the correct point on your thigh is crucial to achieve the most flattering look.

Now you can put on your stockings. To avoid creating snags or runs, itʼs easiest to roll them up, then slipping your foot in and gently unrolling the rest of the stocking as you cover the rest of your leg.

Then you will attach the clasps to the stockings, hereʼs where people start to get confused. The claps at the bottom of the garter straps should be undone by sliding the small circular button piece up until it pops out of the plastic clasp. Next you can place the top of your stocking in between the button piece and the plastic clasp, then return the button back into the clasp securing the fabric in between the two pieces. Repeat the same steps for the rest of the garter straps around your legs.Take extra care to make sure that the straps donʼt get twisted in the back, since those are a little more tricky. 

 For the straps directly on the back of your leg, you will want to adjust the length after attaching to your stockings or thigh highs to make sure that you can still move your legs around without having it too tight. In order to see how loose/tight you will want the straps in the back, simply attach them to the stockings or thigh highs, then lift your leg at about a 90° angle to make sure that the straps are loose enough to move with you.

Finally, take a step back and do a once-over on yourself (you know want to, you look good!). Double check that nothing is too tight or too loose, and that your stockings are symmetrical for both legs.

And voilà! Youʼve successfully attached your garter belt to your stockings for the completed sexy look, and youʼre definitely making the most out of your lingerie! It can seem daunting the first time you do it, but just remember that practice makes perfect and youʼll be able to attach them with your eyes closed before you know it!

Lingerie and Bra care

Especially to you from the experts at Mykarnation.com; we want your lingerie and bras to stay beautiful after laundering time and time again.

First off, check the individual care instructions on the inner tag of the bra or lingerie itself for specific details like dry clean only, hand wash, or delicate cycle.  Once you have determined which method to use, follow our guidelines for effective and safe cleansing.

Hand Wash:

1. Fill the sink or basin with cold water and sprinkle a small amount of mild detergent into the water.  We recommend Lingerie Wash by DONA  for lingerie, bras, hosiery, and shape wear.  This has no harsh ingredients to break down elastic, and will cleanse, freshen and protect you apparel and hands.

2.Gently submerge the lingerie or bra one at a time and soak for approximately 20 minutes.  Next, swish back and forth for a quick moment, focusing attention on areas near the underarm and/or between the legs.

3.Empty the sink or basin and rinse thoroughly with cold water. 

4.Hang to dry or lay flat, and most importantly do not place in a machine dryer for any period of time, on any cycle.

5.Do not wring, twist, or scrunch! This will cause stretching.

 Delicate Cycle:

1.Select the delicate cycle on your wash machine and cold water temperature.  Use a small amount of lingerie safe detergent, or Lingerie Wash by DONA.  Let the machine fill, and avoid any type of fabric softener

2. Fasten any hooks, zippers, laces, or closures, and place your lingerie inside out or bra into a lingerie wash bag, like Silky Sac, and seal it closed tightly.  This will prevent the items from becoming tangled or twisted.  However, do not crush the cups on any preformed bra.

3.When the cycle is complete, remove the articles from the bag and reshape with your hands.  Hang to dry or lay flat.

4.Do not place items in the dryer, even on a cool setting.  The heat and tumbling will cause wear and tear on the fabric and elastic.

When caring and washing your bra's and lingerie the correct way, you will find that the life of the items is extened significantly.

Follow this easy step by step guide on how to indulge your partner with a 45 minute romantic massage.  Surprise even yourself on what journey it will lead you.  The art of massage can stimulate blood circulation, release endorphins, relieve stress, enhance sensuality, and create a bond between two people. 

Let’s begin by creating the mood.  First, get a towel and then roll it up. Have your partner lay face down and get comfortable with the top sheet over their legs and up to the waist leaving the upper back uncovered.  With the hot towel, carefully unroll and place on to the lower back on top of the sheet.  Be sure to use enough massage oil to glide easily over the skin, and begin with the palms of the hands (not the fingertips) and use firm strokes from the neck down the back; next to but not on top of the spine and focus on slow relaxing movements.  After a few moments, move from the neck across one shoulder and down the arm,focus on one arm completely before the other, and use light and gentle twisting motions and massage the entire hand and each finger to the tip.  Then repeat on the other arm.

Massage back up the leg to the thigh, and once more down the leg and up to the buttocks. 

Use a gentle kneading motion and continue using the light twisting motion and long strokes down the entire leg one at a time.  After, focus on the feet and toes, then unfold the sheet and cover your partner entirely to have them turn over on to their back.

Place both thumbs gently in the middle of their forehead, slowly trace to their temples, and repeat 3 times.  Move from the temples to the ears and from the circular motions on the earlobes down the neck and to the tops of the shoulders .  Caress the neck and upper chest, then gently glide hands over the cheeks and

onto the scalp and massage for a moment.  Finally rub your hands together quickly to create friction and generate heat then firmly place over the forehead and softly whisper something romantic in their ear…

I had never really thought about lingerie much. Thinking back, I guess it was about 2 months prior to working for Karnation Intimate Apparel.  I wasn’t really shopping for anything specific, mostly browsing and killing time.
